Hello, fellow book wranglers and connoisseurs of the
absurd! We’re almost halfway through Going Postal by
Terry Pratchett, and if you’re not already eyeing your
mailbox with newfound suspicion, you’re probably
reading the wrong book. Our last meeting was a
riot—equal parts literary analysis and Monty Python
sketch, with a dash of heartfelt nostalgia for snail
mail and a generous helping of Pratchett’s signature
wit.
Here'a a quick recap of what we discussed last time:
-
Moist von Lipwig, our favourite (and only)
conman-turned-Postmaster General, was the star of
the show. We debated whether he’s a hero, a
scoundrel, or just a man with a very shiny hat.
-
The audiobook vs. physical book debate raged on.
Some swore by the footnotes and voices, others by
the feel of paper and the satisfaction of slamming
the book shut after a particularly ridiculous plot
twist.
-
We compared Pratchett’s humor to Douglas Adams and
Monty Python, and someone (you know who you are)
tried to convince us that Snow Crash is just as
funny. The jury’s still out.
-
Personal tales of lost letters, pen pals, and postal
mishaps abounded—turns out, we all have a little
Moist in us (minus the criminal record, hopefully).
-
The group’s camaraderie was on full display, with
icebreakers about fictional pen pals and plenty of
friendly ribbing about past book choices. We even
flirted with the idea of genre polls and alternating
fiction with nonfiction for future reads.
